Young Georgia Authors Competition Once again, it’s time for the annual Young Georgia Author’s Writing Competition sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education. The purpose of this competition is to encourage our K-12 students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, provide a context to celebrate their writing success, and recognize student achievement in the arts and academics.
Entries are due no later than Thursday, February 13, 2020.
What to Write: Unlike many writing competitions, the YGA does NOT provide a prompt to which students must respond. The genre is of the student's own choosing (limited to 1,900 words) and may include the following:
Short Stories
Poetry
Personal Narratives
Journalism
Academic/Research Reports
Essays/Literary Criticism/Analysis
Any Other Original Student Writing
Important Rules to Note:
1. Student writing must be ORIGINAL AND UNASSISTED work (this includes editing & revision work). Work that is not original will unfortunately be eliminated from the competition.
2. An entry form, including student and parent signatures, MUST accompany the writing. Entry forms can be found at www.curriculumdolvin.weebly.com
3. On original AND a one single-sided copy of the original work must be submitted.
4. The maximum length is 1,900 words.
5. Do not decorate, bind, laminate, or make a cover.
6. Use paper clips, staples, or binders.
*Please be sure to read all rules carefully so that your submission will not be disqualified & so that you know how you will be judged.
The complete list of rules can be found at www.curriculumdolvin.weebly.com
