Welcome to the SUPER new school year!
It was a great first day!! I enjoyed getting to know your students. I am looking forward to making connections and building strong relationships through the school year. I hope your students enjoyed their first day back at Dolvin. I am looking forward to a Prattastic year.
Each week I will update a "Weekly Blast" via both email and a blog on my website. We will discuss where to find the weekly blast for each class at Curriculum Night (Mark your calendars for August 21st at 6:30PM). You can always find updates and past updates on the "weekly blast" tab. Please make sure you read and review this each week as it contains important information.
A few beginning of the year reminders:
- Please check your child's agenda NIGHTLY. Teachers will be signing agendas to teach responsibility. This is where you will find notes from the teacher, test dates, student homework, etc. I ask that you sign every night so I can make sure it is being shown to parents.
- Homework- Will be written in agendas nightly. We will discuss homework policies in more detail on curriculum night.
- Quizzes- In 5th grade, quizzes are unannounced. Students are expected to study nightly so they are always prepared.
- Test Dates- Test dates will be written in agendas and sent via weekly blast (email/blog).
School Dress Code
Below is the Dress code as written in the Dolvin Handbook. With summer still very present, I just wanted to remind everyone of the policy. We will give the students reminders about “school clothes” and “play/home clothes” as well. We even use ourselves as examples. (Ms. Pratt has always been tall, so she has always had to buy longer clothes than her friends. Ms. Pratt wears different clothes to the park/mall during the summer than she would wear to school.) Thank you for helping reinforce the school dress code with the students.
All students shall dress appropriately so as not to disrupt or interfere with the educational program or orderly operation of the school. Extremes in dressing and grooming will not be permitted. Shorts and skirts must meet finger-tip rule and straps must be one inch in width. Bare midriffs, see through clothing, and apparel that designate gangs or similar are not appropriate wear. Flip flops should not be worn to school. On the first violation, the teacher will send a note home to remind the parent and student of the dress code (use standard form). For the second violation, students will be asked to call home for appropriate clothing or borrow from the clinic.
Student Expectations: We keep high expectations for our students at Dolvin and in 5th grade. We will be writing notes in agendas for student successes as well as student mistakes that need to be celebrated or addressed at home. At Dolvin, we have 3 big rules. Respect myself, Respect others and be 100% Accountable.
Students will learn specific expectations for what these "Big 3" look like throughout the school. If a student fails to meet these expectations, their teacher will make a note in their agenda as a warning. Please help to review the classroom expectations. We strongly believe that these expectations are required in order to run a positive classroom environment that is suitable for each students learning needs. When a student exceeds any of these expectations and goes above and beyond to be a role model and make good choices, they will be awarded a splash card! At the end of each month, the grade level with the most splash cards gets a reward.
