Hello Parents,
With the year winding down, please help us to reinforce the expectations and rules for school. Students still have important tests as well as fun events to experience. Remind students to come to school prepared for the day, caught up on their HW/reading, and ready for the day with a positive attitude! We are so close, we can do it! Thank you for all your support through the year, especially these last few weeks!

--The 2018-19 school year is quickly coming to an end, and now it is time to celebrate the achievements of our 5th grade students. 5th grade fun week takes place the last week of school. The Dolvin staff has worked with the room parents to coordinate the activities for the last week of school. To make all of these activities possible, we are asking for a DONATION of $10 per student. An email will be sent to you with a link for volunteer sign-ups on Monday, April 29th at 7PM by your Homeroom Teacher. Volunteer sign-ups will be on a first come, first served basis. When signing up to volunteer, please select only one event per family to allow an opportunity for all parents. If additional slots become available your child’s teacher will contact you. The schedule of events will be coming home with your child today.
iReady- Students should be completing at least 45 minutes of iReady-per subject each week. This can be a combination of at home and at school. If we assign it for homework, please help by encouraging your student to complete their iReady lessons.
Coach Digital- The Coach Digital Platform can be used for Milestones test Prep and review of all the standards. A letter went home with login information a few weeks ago. Coach Book lessons have been assigned to the students. They cannot complete those assignments digitally, (answering questions with a click of a button or typing on the PDF). They can print these assignments, or view them online and answer the questions on paper. I have assigned some practice assignments that they CAN complete online as well. You can also search the bookshelf tab, and many other resources will pop up. Various workbooks are available to pull up review assignments. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding Coach Digital. To access coach digital visit the website: coachdigital.com/org/02042377 and login with: username: lunch number password: 123456
Research: This week we will continue our unit on Research, which will conclude May 16 with the 5th Grade Living Museum. For this unit, we’ll learn how to use reference materials (dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, almanac, encyclopedia, and online/internet) and then learn the steps of the research process including how to write a proper bibliography. Then the students will choose topics to research (based on their SS standards) and follow the research steps in creating their Living Museum projects. All of their work for the Living Museum will be mostly done at school except getting their costume together, a little extra research if needed, and practicing their speech. Students may start bringing in their tri-fold boards and materials to create their visuals this week. The test will be next week.
Grammar: We will continue to review all the grammar units from the year. This week we are focusing on verb tense and commas/quotes. During this unit, students will learn the various comma and quote rules for within a piece of writing. We will also review the types of verbs (action, helping, linking), the principal parts of verbs, and the 6 tenses. Students will have notes in their binders, their grammar notebooks, and on Google Classroom. We will have a culminating test next week.
Reading: This week we are reviewing all the skills from the year. Students will be receiving their next novel study book at the end of this week. This book is a historical fiction based on WWII. The books are Number the Stars, or Behind the Bedroom Wall. We will continue with story elements related to the novel. Students need to stay caught up on their reading chapters. Tonight’s HW was to read chapter 9.
Students have received their April book log. Students need to have read two, 150 page books, or one, 300+ page book (preapproved by me). The WWII book will not count for the April book log. Please remind your student to stay caught up on their reading. Book logs must be signed by parents. This will be due on April 30th. The novel test will be in about 2 weeks.
Spelling: List 10-Research words was passed out last week. The quiz will be on Wednesday. Their lists should stay in their binders through the school year. Remember to study both the spelling and the definitions. If you would like for your child to have extra practice with their spelling words, they may use Spelling City website: https://www.spellingcity.com/pratta.
